Affiliate and Mobile Marketing Trends in 2026: What Changed and What to Do

Automation took over the buying, privacy reshaped measurement and the ad-tech map changed. Here is what matters for performance marketers.

Three forces shaped affiliate and mobile marketing in 2026: ad platforms automated almost everything, privacy changes moved measurement to new frameworks, and the ad-tech landscape consolidated. Here are the trends that matter for advertisers, networks and media buyers — and what to do about each.

1. The platforms run the buying

Meta (Advantage+ and its Andromeda retrieval system), Google (Performance Max and AI Max for Search), TikTok (Smart+) and app networks such as AppLovin all ask advertisers to hand over targeting, placements and creative assembly to machine learning.

What it means: your inputs are now the offer, the creative, the conversion data and the budget. Creative diversity matters more than audience settings, and the quality of the conversion signal decides results.

What to do: send the event closest to revenue, server-side where possible (Conversions API, Events API, enhanced conversions, MMP integrations); produce genuinely different creative concepts; keep compliance control over automatic creative edits. See how Meta Ads works and how Google Ads works.

2. iOS measurement moves to AdAttributionKit

Apple's AdAttributionKit — introduced with iOS 17.4 and expanded since, with re-engagement, configurable attribution windows and more — is replacing SKAdNetwork as the privacy-preserving attribution framework on iOS, with the two interoperable during the transition.

What to do: check your MMP and ad networks support AdAttributionKit, review conversion-value mapping, and expect aggregated, delayed iOS data. Use incrementality tests and modelling alongside attribution.

3. Privacy Sandbox is over

In October 2025 Google announced it would retire most Privacy Sandbox technologies, including the Attribution Reporting API on Chrome and Android, citing low adoption, and said it would work on an interoperable attribution standard through the W3C.

What it means: on Android, existing identifiers (GAID with consent where required) and the Play Install Referrer remain central; on the web, first-party data, consent management and server-side tracking matter more than ever.

4. Microsoft leaves the DSP business

Microsoft announced the end of buying through its Invest DSP (formerly Xandr) from 28 February 2026, pointing buyers to Amazon DSP. Combined with the rise of retail and walled-garden ad platforms, independent buyers have fewer large DSPs to choose from. See the best DSPs in 2026.

5. CTV and retail media keep growing

Connected TV and retail media (ads sold by retailers and commerce platforms using their shopper data) continue to take budget from traditional display. Measurement is improving through MMP CTV attribution and retailer clean rooms.

What to do: test CTV with clear measurement (cross-device attribution, incrementality); for commerce apps, consider retail media where your customers shop.

6. AI-generated creative becomes normal — and regulated

Every major platform now offers AI tools to generate copy, images and video. Regulators and platforms are tightening rules on undisclosed synthetic endorsements, deepfakes and misleading claims.

What to do: use AI for volume and variation, keep humans responsible for claims, and never generate fake testimonials or celebrity endorsements.

7. Agency transparency and supply quality

MMPs have tightened controls — AppsFlyer, for example, requires ad networks to allowlist agencies and keeps agency transparency on by default — while buyers push for supply-path transparency (ads.txt, sellers.json, schain). See AppsFlyer for agencies and how RTB works.

What to do: work with partners who disclose every source and buy through the shortest, most transparent paths.

8. Payments and compliance professionalise

Affiliates and networks increasingly use industry payment platforms, stablecoins and multi-currency accounts, while KYC and source-of-funds checks tighten. Compare costs in how affiliates get paid internationally.

The common thread

Every trend rewards the same discipline: define the event that makes money, measure it in a source of truth you control, and pay partners only for verified results. That is how ClickSpero runs campaigns — see how we work.
